.. by Queen o’Danile, and now have to write 10 random facts about myself, and hand the torch on to 5 other hapless bloggers.

Fortunately for me, I’ve already done that quite a while ago, on my About me page. So my job is done already :)  read more »

Fairouz

Crazy rants of a sad lonely man - Fri, 2007-11-23 05:30 By AEA

Growing up in Egypt or anywhere in the middle east in the past 30 years you couldn’t possibly escape hearing Fairouz’s songs at least once. My older brother used to love Fairouz and I thought it was stupid till I fell in love with Fairouz’s biggest fan. Reem made me a mixtape of her favorite Fairouz songs and almost forced me to listen to it. I fell in love with every song. I used to tease her by telling her that she only loves Fairouz because she sang a song to her daughter who happens to be called Reema. After Reem died I couldn’t listen to Fairouz anymore. I deleted all music files I had and threw the tapes away I only kept the mixtape but I never listened to it, I never took it out of my drawer.  read more »

“بقالة المتوكل على الله”

Crazy rants of a sad lonely man - Sun, 2007-11-18 02:49 By AEA

I spent the early years of my childhood between two countries, I went to a different school every year, My first year in Egypt I went to the closest school to our house. I used to walk there everyday and everyday I used to pass by this little store and everyday the same guy used to open up and set in front of the store at 7:30 AM wearing his “galabeya” and a cap, he was bald and I always referred to him as “the bald store guy”.  read more »

What a lovely day for humanity...

Hearing myself speak - Sat, 2007-11-10 16:24 By
*Sigh* ! It's such a pretty day. The breeze is gently blowing making the leaves rustle softly , the birds are singing, the guy next to us is beating the crap out of his wife....
Yeah, that's right. Our next door neighbour, a dentist from a family which is very financially blessed , who has only been married for less than a year (also to a dentist) is currently undertaking the task of making his wife run around the house , screaming for help. Did I mention that she has just had a baby about a week ago?  read more »

Things I just don't understand the popularity of ...

Hearing myself speak - Fri, 2007-11-09 13:56 By
Yes, yes ... I realize I complain ..a lot. I can't help it though, I'm just built this way and I always find fuel all around me that keeps me going.
Take these things, I just don't get why they're so damn popular. I'm not insulting people who do them/enjoy them (not all of them , anyway) , I just can't my wrap my mind around why they're so ubiquitous.

Tag : Five reasons why I wish I was 3

Hearing myself speak - Mon, 2007-10-01 19:18 By
I knew I said that I wouldn't be writing for a while on my blog, considering I'm still trapped in the deep dark abyss that is my medical school finals ( Hide your women and children , folks. These things are dangerous!) but this tag (from Om Luji) was just way too cute !

Five reasons why I wish I was 3 :

1-It was the end of the era during which being chubby was cute .

2-It was so easy to please your parents. For example, going potty within the vicinity of the bathroom ( rather than..well..somewhere else) was an actual cause of celebration for the whole family.

3-No matter what you did, from drooling to trying to strangle the family cat, it was still considered cute.

Stating the Obvious

Hearing myself speak - Thu, 2007-09-13 21:13 By
First of all, I'd like to wish everyone a Happy and Blessed Ramadan!

I obviously haven't been updating as often as I should because of how busy I've been for the past few weeks considering my finals are just *gulp* around the corner. I'm gonna have to take an official break from blogging for a while to spare you entries like these :

"It's been weeks now since I've seen other human beings, I'm hoping for help to come soon before it's too late."

"I keep seeing and hearing things late at night...I don't know whether it's all in my head or just all around me...the dark thing , it comes mostly at night"

Quick Poll....I need help!!

Hearing myself speak - Mon, 2007-08-27 20:52 By
SO I'm having a bit of a dilemma regarding my coffee habits, my studying and the fact that I'm being examined during Ramadan.

The facts are :

-I'm being examined Internal Medicine on 27/9 , 29/9, 1/3 and 3/3.
- All of these dates will be in Ramadan of course.
- I have a vicious addiction to all forms of caffeine especially during exam time when it seems like sleeping will simple make all the bad things go bye-bye.
-Considering the size of the subject matter, I'll start the "final revision" between 5th-7th of September. I use the word "final" very loosely.
-Ramadan will most likely be on the 13th of September and iftar will range between being at 6 to being at 7.  read more »

Note to self for future consideration....

Hearing myself speak - Fri, 2007-08-24 19:16 By
Believe it or not kid, people are not always hiding behind house plants waiting for you to trip and fall on your face , so they could snicker and whisper about what a clumsy klutz you are.
In fact, the majority of people do in fact have lives and hardly notice you,
or the way you walk ..
or your blemishes..
or the way you tend to spill coffee on yourself when you're busy thinking..
or how your voice tends to climb up a notch or two when you're chatting enthusiastically with your friends ..
or how you still mess up your verbs and nouns when you speak Arabic...
Stop being paranoid! Stop looking over your shoulder  read more »

Greetings Earthlings

No , no. The fact that I haven't written anything in this blog isn't because of random experimental alien abduction. At least none that I know of ...but the truth is like, totally out there , dude.

Anyway, the fact is I had a couple of tests in the 2 colossal subjects I have this year ; internal medicine and pediatrics. They both sort of included the entire syllabus, yet strangely enough , they weren't my part of my finals which start in less than 6 weeks. Only in med school do we find this strange proliferation of exams until they make sure they've got you cornered for the entire summer.  read more »

Bikyaa - Tue, 2007-07-24 19:29 By
It's been a while, lots of things have happened, went travelling in Sinai, came back and got a full time job, my first since staying at home with the little one three years ago. Been scuba diving and parasailing for the first time, spent the weekend at a beautiful place that I’ve always wanted to visit, it’s been good, things have changed very quickly and for the first time in ages, I feel good again. I feel light, just when I had lost interest.

I have an "acquaintance" in college who I considered a good friend in the first 2-3 yrs of college. We even looked a bit alike and most people thought that we were related. There was a distressing issue that she complained to me about during our first yr. Apparently, there was this guy who was always hovering around her. He showed up after she finished her sections, sat near her in lectures, bought her books she didn't ask for and even had the audacity to reproach her for not studying well after seeing her not-so-great grades when our test results were hung up on the wall after every test. She kept telling me that she wished he would just leave her alone and go away but she didn't have the heart to embarrass him.  read more »

Pet Peeves that bring out the axe murder in you

Hearing myself speak - Mon, 2007-07-02 19:52 By
I'm not talking about things that simply "annoy" you, I'm talking about things that elicit a strong desire in you to inflict physical injury, a desire that you have to work very, very hard to contain. Then again, my mother says I'm a violent person by nature...(Not because I enjoyed hurting small animals as a child but because I slam doors a little too hard and open jars a little too aggressively. *sigh*Don't ask)

-In a crowded line towards an exit when someone insists on laying their hands on you as if somehow that's going to propel both of you towards the door any faster. What's especially irritating, is the fact that they're really not important enough to be in such a hurry.
Hey there, strange person behind me...hands to yourself or I'm gonna cut ya! O.K now?

Which is Worse?

Hearing myself speak - Fri, 2007-05-18 20:34 By

Can you believe that every single time I pray outside my house, some girl is waiting by to give me a cassette or give me a lecture about my hair? One girl even had the audacity (or is it the stupidity?) to ask me inside a mosque while putting on my shoes if I was a muslim. Um..well darn , you caught me! I’m really a Buddhist in disguise who came in here for the breezy atmosphere and the romantic lighting.

I should’ve asked her if she only began praying or even believing in God when she started covering her hair or maybe I should’ve just told her she was a hopeless moron. *Sigh*That’s l’esprit de l’escalier for you.  read more »
