Turkey and Nationa ID card for Baha'is
From Turkish Daily News Nov 17, 2007
"Technology has helped to promote the Baha'i religion; their culture is becoming increasingly well known and their voice is being heard both in Turkey and around the world. But they frequently face problems from the lack of information about the faith and inaccurate public images of the religion. In other words, they live with the problems and disadvantages of being a religious minority in Turkey. They want to be explored and understood correctly, and they welcome any kind of consultation, one of the fundamental doctrines of Baha'is, so that others may learn about the faith.

Farewell Ramadan :(
As always, Ramadan month just whizzed away :(
It is amazing how those 30 days just tend to fly!
It is as if Ramadan is telling us:"Catch me if you can!"
Note: with all due respect to Ginger Bread Man from the Ladybird stories...although it was "You can't catch me! You can't catch me!".
Yesterday, after praying the late night prayers in the Masjid (Mosque) i just rested my back against the side wall of the Masjid within the praying area and sat there for like 10 minutes.

Craziness is a Disease in Egypt
I like to consider myself somewhat of an accurate analyst but sometimes the context of Egypt politics and social peculiarities are too much for me to comprehend so I resort to sitting back and accepting it as one of those things that make the country what it is…an upside down mess.
The most recent mess is this insane so called “Fatwa” by the Egyptian Sheikh of Al Azhar, Mohammed Tantawy. He gave a speech Monday in front of an audience that included Hosni Mubarak, stating that “those who spread rumors” should recieve 80 lashes, in reference to the recent indictment of journalists.
Amin Howaidy put it best… read more »

Jihad on Jihad

Jihad On You, it's yet another proof that social softwares can be totally pointless.
"Jihad on you! is a social website based on venting the frustrations we all feel on a daily basis by declaring a holy war against anything and everything that annoys us, no matter how petty or insignificant. Obviously the whole idea is a bit toungue-in-cheek", Jihad On You!
In this site you declare holy wars on stuff you hate in your life and people can see wars created by others, and use digg-style voting system in order to vote for the wars they like.

Even In The Heat Of Battle...
About 1400 years ago in a battle called OHOD this happened...
In the aftermath of the battle where the Muslims were defeated, bodies of the deceased martyrs and many wounded Muslims were all around the battlefield.
One of the Sahaba (Followers of Prophet Mohammad) seeing the wounded laying on the battlefield with the sun up in the sky on such a hot day, he brought a bottle of water and went off searching for the wounded to give them some water.

McCain says 'NO' to a Muslim president
Washington: Presidential candidate John McCain has decided to publicly state that he would not vote for a Muslim president. In an interview with the website beliefnet.

A Band In The Mosque!
This happened last night in the Mosque (Masjid) I pray Taraweh in (in Qatar).
Note: The following is in terms of "the meaning of" not literally said or done.
Between the Taraweh prayers (11 in total), the Imam (Islamic cleric leading prayer) stops for a 10-15 minute lesson. Yesterday, the lesson was very different...
As we finished praying, the Imam went up to the Mic and said that we have a guy with us in the Masjid that is from a charity organization and that he wants to make a few announcements.
The guy went up to the Mic and made a few announcements of the achievements done with all the money collected over the past 3 years and so on.
After that the shock happened…

شكراً لشيخ الأزهر Thanks to Shiekh Al-Azhar

Shiekh Al-Azhar, Dr. Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi, agrees that there is separation between citizenship and belief. Religion should be recorded on the ID card, even for Egyptian Baha'is... Freedom of believes is garanteed for everyone but the judgment is up to God. read more »
