CAIRO: Ahead of a must-win match on September 5 versus Rwanda in Kigali, Egyptian national team players apparently have agreed not to fast on match day, President of the Egyptian Football Assocaition (EFA) Samir Zaher, said in a press statement. According to him, the squad has agreed that it is not a good idea to fast after a number of religious leaders, including the country’s top religious institution, issued fatwas – Islamic opinions – over the subject.  read more »

CAIRO: Reports on Thursday said that the first doctor in Egypt was being charged under a new Egyptian law that forbids the controversial practice of female genital mutilation, or FGM. The man allegedly illegally circumcised a young girl last week and is being charged after a local hospital notified the authorities following the 11-year-old girl’s admittance into the hospital with heavy bleeding as a result of the procedure.

According to al-Arabiya news organization, the doctor performed the procedure at the girl’s Minya home – some 400 miles south of Cairo – for 150 Egyptian pounds ($27).  read more »

CAIRO: The prominent Sunni Muslim religious institution has become Egypt’s latest Internet victim after it was hacked early Sunday morning. Visitors to the website seeking information on Islam were surprised by the new homepage created by the hackers, who had replaced the original site with a new network that posted the name “sovalye-starturk” in its place.  read more »

T-shirts? Where’s a good, old-fashioned cross burning when you need one?

It’s common knowledge that the way to deal with hatred and discrimination is more hatred and discrimination, much like rubbing soil into your shirt will remove mud stains. The Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, FL that has been making waves with their new T-shirts emblazoned with the words “Islam is of the Devil” on the back.  read more »

The Dove Outreach Center of Gainsville, Florida, instructed its followers to wear T-shirts that read “Islam is of the Devil.” Yes, you read right. The group that seeks to alienate us poor Satanists through an offensive and even violent medium is called the Dove Outreach Center.

This “Church” has no doubt achieved one of its aims, that is, publicity, after a number of schoolchildren were sent home for wearing the shirts and the issue began to get the attention of the press.  read more »
