Resident Lions for Evil Lambs

Green Data - Wed, 2007-11-21 21:01 By
A couple of weeks ago we decided to go to the cinema in order to see "Resident Evil", but the cinema was "Complet" then, so we decided to see "Lions for Lambs" instead. It stars Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, and Tom Cruise. So the cast was enough to expect an acceptable movie. You know, we have our own scale to rate movies. A movie can be either Good, or a Computer Movie, which is the one that doesn't worth the money paid in the cinema ticket, a Computer Movie is one of those movies that you can see after downloading a pirated version of it on your PC.

OPEC Summit aside

Cairene's Nilometer - Mon, 2007-11-19 17:30 By Cairene

Apparently an oil company consortium led by Brasilian company Petrobras has announced the conclusion of well tests that indicate the deep water Tupi field to be enormous. When the field comes online (it will require the cutting edge of oil drilling technology), it could place Brazil in league with the other major new world fuel producers (like Venezuela, Canada and the States) and potentially the world. In fact it stands to more than double Brasil’s proven reserves ranking it above Norway.  read more »

Oil prices: unstable subsidizers

Cairene's Nilometer - Mon, 2007-11-12 16:14 By Cairene

As OPEC looks set to request assurances that demand wont decrease (hah!) as especially the US and Europe pursue other sources of energy in return for investing significantly in expanding production capabilities, someone finally looks at what these prices mean to people other than the gas excreters and guzzlers swimming in dollars and debt, respectively.  read more »

The Age of Insufficiency

Cairene's Nilometer - Thu, 2007-11-08 14:53 By Cairene

One thing i like about oil prices so close to $100 is the fact that it’s forcing a lot of people to stop and think about our dependence on petroleum. There is so much coming out these days that it’s difficult to keep track of. Micheal Klare has an interesting piece in the Nation that looks at prospects for the end of the Age of Petroleum.  read more »

Torture and Authoritarianism

Cairene's Nilometer - Tue, 2007-11-06 13:55 By Cairene

Hossam has a long, impassioned (as always) post in light of the recent 3-year prison sentence against the Boulaq officers who tortured and sodomized a microbus driver. The case became a0″ public” issue when bloggers broke the story and published a video of the abuse.  read more »

Unnecessary, and not very diverting, musings - Tue, 2007-10-09 14:15 By
A friend of mine referred me to this blog on living in Iraq. I have to confess I haven't really been paying much attention to the details of the situation there, and have been especially concerned about what Iraqis themselves think. This is what at least one Sunni partisan thinks. Read. A woman who makes me forget that I ever thought writing style was important. I guess passion is important too. Passion, or hatred?

In Memory Of The 6th Of October War (Yom Kippur War)

Fadfadation - Sun, 2007-10-07 11:42 By Fadfadation
It has been 34 years since the 6th Of October War (Yom Kippur War).

If anyone searches the Internet for info about the war or asks a foreigner what they know about that war, the result is one thing... The Israelis won!

As for us Arabs\Muslims, we believe we won (at least us Egyptians won on our side).

Why Foreigners think we lost the war?

Dictatorship…but among who?

Politikia and the Society - Sat, 2007-09-15 01:14 By
Dictatorship, something which most human beings in our world suffered from in a time or another when talking about regimes. All people know or feel how does it look like to fall under the burden of a dictator of some sort or another. But here, I am not talking about it while dealing with regimes usually supported by the west. Here I’m talking about people. The reflections of cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression, on the people, and what does it lead to. About the results. As a universal law, every action has a reaction, equal in magnitude and opposite in direction. This eternal physical law can be applied on people while still being politically correct.

Poll #2: How many people do you think will accept to marry a rapped girl?

Mohamed Meshref's Blog - Sun, 2007-07-08 21:54 By Mohamed Meshref
In continue for the previous post, and taking this post as a reference, this time the question is simple:

We all know that when a girl is rapped that she's a victim, we all agree on this and I am sure than about 80%-90% of the population actually agree on this, but the question, how many people do you think will accept the following:  read more »

Poll #3: How many Egyptian do you think will take any professional criticism personally?

Mohamed Meshref's Blog - Sat, 2007-07-07 21:47 By Mohamed Meshref
Again, in continue for the last post, the final question:

If you went to your college, and told any professor that his way of teaching is not good and that you can't understand anything, what do you expect that he'll do?
  1. Give you bad grades in his subject (or even make you fail in his subject)?
  2. Tell you that you're rude and then you'll probably find that you've lost one year in the college (or may even lose the whole college).
  3. Tell you "Thanks for letting me know, you're a honest person"?

Knowing the fact that you told him this sentence exactly:  read more »

The Regime and Mario

Politikia and the Society - Wed, 2007-07-04 06:19 By
I guess that we are in the same place with that person who plays Mario here in this video. In democratic administrations, the game is so hard, but things develop in the right way. But in Egypt, the regime cheats to make the game impossible :)

بيان رابطة أهل السنة في إيران بيان هايد بارك –لندن- 99/4/11
إيران دولة طائفية منافقة –غير إسلامية-لكنها تتاجر باسم الإسلام بدليل:

Egypt - Is it Still a Regional Leader?

Green Data - Sat, 2007-06-23 00:34 By
We were taught in schools that Egypt is the leader of the Arabs and their big brother with its bzillion years history and wise role. But, is this still true now!? In fact I think the Egyptian leadership has shrank due to many reasons.

Some may claim that Mubarak's regime is focused on some minor internal affairs such as preparing his son Gamal to succeed him. And this is the main reason that Egypt has lost its regional place.  read more »
