Not a secret anymore

Egyptian chronicles - Mon, 2008-05-12 17:18 By

Some times I wonder Where is Egypt from what is going in Sudan ?? It is part from national security and since General Omar Soliman took the file of Sudan we do not know where or what our stand is from it !! To be honest I think the Sudanese issue is from the issues that we do not follow the United States administration in it , thank Goodness for that.  read more »

What a coincidence

Egyptian chronicles - Fri, 2008-05-09 17:57 By

This coincidence  shows you how the Egypt , Syria and Lebanon are too close to each whether on the Governmental level or the public level.

Last Week Mubarak announced a 30% raise in Egypt

Last week Bashar announced a 25% raise in Syria

Then this week the Egyptian Government raised the prices of fuel products along with other products

Also this week the Syrian Government raised the prices of fuel products along with other products

To Lebanon

The Pro-American Cabinet that no one wants it more because of its economic and political decisions raised the prices of fuel products along with other products and now people are really angry not because of sectarian reasons or Hezbollah or Iran but because of the prices.  read more »

Too late

Egyptian chronicles - Fri, 2008-05-09 17:04 By

Egypt and Saudi Arabia announced that they are going to have an urgent meeting in the Arab League for the Arab foreign ministers after two days from today , oh yes after two days ; on Monday !!??

Either that Egypt and Saudi Arabia are waiting to see which side will win and so they will form a position despite their support to the 14th of March or that they are waiting form some external miracle to come and save  the 14th of March from a bitter defeat !!

I do not know what could happen in the next 48 hours , it seems to me that Nasrallah was not kidding when he hinted that he could control Beirut in short time , well he  read more »

To Clarify Something about Beirut riots

Egyptian chronicles - Thu, 2008-05-08 11:01 By

I am noticing something that the media in the west and east are ignoring the economic factor in the Lebanese issue.

people do not understand that the majority of Shiites in Lebanon are from the Blue collar working classes whether from the farmers or from the labours. The last economic decisions to raise the price of fuel and diesel in Lebanon just like another Egypt made this class extremely angry especially their wages were the same ,even after the very fast small raise the cabinet had decided from two days before the protests. The Cabinet decided to raise the minimum wages to become $US 500 , useless raise in front of continuous rising prices.  read more »

From Mahalla to Beirut ; more than a strike , more than a protest

Egyptian chronicles - Wed, 2008-05-07 20:04 By Zeinobia

I think no one imagined things would be go this route in Beirut ,in today's labour strike and protest except of course who planned to make this way . I mean it is a decision taken in the moment to bring your weapons and start attacking the others in the protests or strike just like this , especially when it involves guns, rifles,Molotov and RBG !!No to mention the army presence !!  read more »

لن نترك المحلة تواجه القمع وحدها - زيارة إلى المحلة لفك الحصار

Manal and Alaa's bit bucket - free speech from the bletches - Thu, 2008-04-10 01:19 By Manal
Start: 2008/04/11 - 11:00

Resident Lions for Evil Lambs

Green Data - Wed, 2007-11-21 21:01 By
A couple of weeks ago we decided to go to the cinema in order to see "Resident Evil", but the cinema was "Complet" then, so we decided to see "Lions for Lambs" instead. It stars Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, and Tom Cruise. So the cast was enough to expect an acceptable movie. You know, we have our own scale to rate movies. A movie can be either Good, or a Computer Movie, which is the one that doesn't worth the money paid in the cinema ticket, a Computer Movie is one of those movies that you can see after downloading a pirated version of it on your PC.

OPEC Summit aside

Cairene's Nilometer - Mon, 2007-11-19 17:30 By Cairene

Apparently an oil company consortium led by Brasilian company Petrobras has announced the conclusion of well tests that indicate the deep water Tupi field to be enormous. When the field comes online (it will require the cutting edge of oil drilling technology), it could place Brazil in league with the other major new world fuel producers (like Venezuela, Canada and the States) and potentially the world. In fact it stands to more than double Brasil’s proven reserves ranking it above Norway.  read more »

Oil prices: unstable subsidizers

Cairene's Nilometer - Mon, 2007-11-12 16:14 By Cairene

As OPEC looks set to request assurances that demand wont decrease (hah!) as especially the US and Europe pursue other sources of energy in return for investing significantly in expanding production capabilities, someone finally looks at what these prices mean to people other than the gas excreters and guzzlers swimming in dollars and debt, respectively.  read more »

Egypt: Nothing Moves People As Much As Religion

Global Voices Online » Egypt - Fri, 2007-11-09 16:17 By D B Shobrawy

The late Naguib Mahfouz once said: “If you want to move people, you look for a point of sensitivity, and in Egypt nothing moves people as much as religion.” It continues to move the social and political mechanics of the people, the future of Egyptian politics and the consciousness of our nation's bloggers alike. These are the current issues of Egypt illustrated through their words.  read more »

The Age of Insufficiency

Cairene's Nilometer - Thu, 2007-11-08 14:53 By Cairene

One thing i like about oil prices so close to $100 is the fact that it’s forcing a lot of people to stop and think about our dependence on petroleum. There is so much coming out these days that it’s difficult to keep track of. Micheal Klare has an interesting piece in the Nation that looks at prospects for the end of the Age of Petroleum.  read more »
