What a Song and Dance!

Ha Ana Za! - Mon, 2008-05-19 21:16 By
On my drive home today, I was tuned into radio four and just managed to catch the tail end of a program discussing the age old European tradition of the Eurovision Song Contest. Those of you who have followed it before will know the format...loads of ridiculous outfits, even more ridiculous songs and mostly talentless singers but there is something quite compulsive about it that gets me tuning in every year to see which country will win.

There is also the recurring debate about political voting...did France not vote for Germany because they're still sore about WW2? Did Germany vote for Israel because of Holocaust guilt (yeh Israel isn't in Europe but it is in Eurovision)? Will Cyprus vote for Greece or Turkey? Will the old Soviet bloc stick together? You get the picture...
Well imagine my delight when I heard the news that the Middle East will be running its own version of Eurovision!?!? Can you imagine the fun and games! Heck we could have a seperate one for each country- what about the Lebanese song contest?!?! Haifa Wehbe vs Elissa? Hezbollah vs Kataeib.
Seriously, though I think it would be quite fun to see a Middle Eastern version of Eurovision, despite it probably being very alleigance driven. Anyway, for those of you geeky enough, I hope to find you all tuned into Eurovision next Saturday in Belgrade!
